Nissans new electric car - the Leaf

May 18, 2010 – 10:47 am
Nissan has released the pricing of its new electric car - the Leaf. Prices in the UK will start at £23350, this includes a government grant of £5000. It's the first of the new all-electric cars to have had its pricing released- Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Citroen and Renault are due to launch electric cars soon but they've not given indication of pricing yet. Despite the Leafs high cost, it does have good tax benefits particularly for businesses - zero Vehicle Excise Duty, and zero company car tax. Don't forget the obvious fuel savings that drivers will also benefit from. It's not without limitations however - the range of the Leaf being around 100 miles, it's probably more suited to cities and towns or those with short journeys. The Leaf will be available from next year in the UK, car leasing prices will follow.

Don’t forget the spare keys!

April 21, 2010 – 8:16 am
Lex Autolease has advised in detail their policy for spare keys - all finance companies obviously require the spare keys to be returned with the vehicle at the end of the contract. Very often, customers forget to find the spare key until it's collected - and often can't find it in time. Lex have said that if you do find the key after the vehicle has been collected they're unable to credit any recharges they might have otherwise passed on.  This is because once the vehicles go into the auction process it's very difficult to get the spare key back to the vehicle it belongs to. So, in order to avoid any necessary end of contract recharges before the car is collected, make sure the following items are with the car: Locking Wheel nuts Service book Spare key(s) User manual Headrests/parcel shelves Any other removable items should also be replaced, should your car have any.

Mercedes finance servicing requirements

April 15, 2010 – 11:55 am
All Mercedes finance products have had clauses added to their contracts that stipulates their requirement for the servicing of the vehicles, they require that the vehicles are serviced at Official Mercedes-Benz Workshops. The warranty won't be jeopardised by having the vehicle serviced elsewhere (as long as it's carried out according to the manufacturers schedule) but it might mean that Mercedes Finance may seek to recover any losses incurred as a result of a reduced residual value. Whilst we would still recommend Mercedes finance products for their generally excellent rates, it is something to bear in mind when it comes to the servicing of your car when considering whole life costs. We have access to Mercedes finance products and also many other established funding companies, so you can be sure you're getting the best deal.

Guaranteed Asset Protection - GAP insurance

March 24, 2010 – 2:25 pm
If your vehicle is written off or stolen don’t pay the shortfall! Walk away and lease again! With insurance offers increasingly falling short of finance company settlement figures it has never been a more prudent time to consider Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) cover on the vehicle you are leasing.  Allowing you to walk away from the settlement figure presented by your finance house, should the vehicle in question be stolen and unrecovered or declared a total loss by your insurance company. GAP Insurance – Market conditions, along with cars depreciating at a greater level than expected, mean that there is often a difference between what your insurance company will offer and the settlement figure on your finance agreement.    “The insurance company pays out £10,000. The finance company are owed £14,000 as the contract was terminated early with charges owed as per the agreement. The GAP insurance will cover the difference between ...
